Program Assessment & Approval
This section assists with determining the financial impact of introducing
new academic programs. As new programs are introduced against a background
of already established programs, an incremental approach is adopted for
determining the financial impact. This only requires a School to identify
those revenues and costs that would change as a result of introducing the
new program. The methodology is equally able to assist in determining the
financial impact of withdrawing existing academic programs.
Formal approval by APPRC for a new program requires the completion of a
Budget Pro-forma as part of a Business Case (refer Coursework Program
Approval Manual – Template 8). The Budget Pro-forma facilitates the capture
of incremental revenues and costs and thereby the likely change to the
School’s existing financial performance as a result of introducing the new
program.
The links below provide access to the Budget Pro-forma as well as Guidance
Notes. Staff are encouraged to work with the Finance Unit's Commercial Support
Manager,
Sam Cooper, in undertaking program financial assessments.
The Finance Unit analyses annually program “profitability” across the range
of programs offered by each School. This provides further background
information for assessing any one individual program. The methodology
differs to the incremental approach as full revenues and all costs are
applied to each program.
